Phoenix Children’s Embraces Experimental Approach to ChatGPT

Date:

Phoenix Children’s Hospital has confirmed that it is adopting an experimental approach to the potential use of generative AI technology ChatGPT in healthcare. David Higginson, the hospital’s Chief Innovation Officer, has encouraged staff to experiment with the technology in a safe way, without necessarily requesting permission. While he recognises the many possible applications of ChatGPT, Higginson emphasised that the hospital is primarily looking at how the technology can relieve administrative burdens for its staff. It is not yet attempting to incorporate the tech around patients’ bedsides. Higginson advises physicians and staff to be mindful of what they input into ChatGPT, which is a public domain, and to be cautious with it.
