OpenAI Explores Investment Opportunities in Korean Startups with Sam Altman

Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, a US-based artificial intelligence (AI) technology firm, said he is interested in Korean startups using his company’s generative AI platform ChatGPT. During a recent meeting with 130 local startup leaders and journalists in Seoul, Altman mentioned that the US company is also exploring investment opportunities in Korean startups and the possibility of joint chip corporations to develop AI accelerators. OpenAI‘s generative AI service ChatGPT has been praised since its release last November, demonstrating AI‘s ability to influence daily life. Altman travelled to Europe, Israel, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Korea, part of his OpenAI Tour 2023, to talk with world leaders about AI and the possible threats the technology poses. OpenAI has shown interest in collaborating with not only Korean startups but also with major companies like Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, and LG Electronics.
