Vehicle rental company Turo has partnered with OpenAI’s chatbot platform ChatGPT to enable artificial intelligence-assisted searches for potential customers. Turo’s plugin allows users to describe exactly what they need and affordably named ChatGPT the first car-sharing or rental car company to integrate with the service. Turo has over 160,000 active hosts, 320,000 active vehicles, and 2.9 million active guests. It allows people to rent cars from others on the platform, similar to the model Airbnb popularized with vacation rentals. OpenAI’s chatbot is expected to save time and effort for people trying to find a rental car to drive and provide an exceptional selection of recommendations for personal preferences and budgets.
Turo’s chief data officer, Albert Mangahas, was excited about the recent integration with OpenAI’s chatbot that would help make Turo more accessible to customers. Mangahas said that they aim to make travel accessible by shaking up the industry and taking a technology-based solution to it. Turo has previously partnered with online travel agencies, Delta Airlines, and Capital One, allowing cardholders to earn points and miles on their accounts when booking a ride with Turo. The Capital One deal was deemed well-received and the first of its kind between a major credit card and peer-to-peer car-sharing platform.
Turo’s plan is to continue augmenting and advancing their platform with more technological solutions targeting geographic expansion and AI investments. The company has always been committed to furthering innovation since it was launched in 2009 and has adapted to conditions in the market regarding trends and economic forces.
