Their blog post indicated that AGI (artificial general intelligence), also dubbed superintelligence, will be more powerful with both benefits and detriments than any technology humanity has come across.
OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, together with co-founders Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever, argued that AI superintelligence will be adopted faster due to the stupendous upsides it offers. Moreover, they suggested that stopping AI, as it is inherently part of our technological path, can only be achieved by implementing a comprehensive surveillance system, something that is highly unlikely. This prompted Altman to urge legislators and regulators to step up and plan out strategies for preparing for the overwhelming power of superintelligence.
Last week, Mr. Altman appeared before a congressional hearing and was asked questions concerning the potential risks posed by AI. During the hearing, he suggested the implementation of licensing tests and approval requirements when developing AI systems.
