Testing Google’s New AI Writing Assistant

Date:

We Put Google’s New AI Writing Assistant to the Test and the experience couldn’t have been more exciting. Google’s AI writing aid, Helps Me Write, is a revolutionary step beyond the Smart Reply and Smart Compose tools that Gmail has offered in the past. It can assist in crafting emails, creating drafts for essays, and generating full drafts from brief descriptions. The tool was initially launched in March and was rolled out more broadly to its annual conference last week.

To see what this AI can do, we asked it to draft a happy birthday email to a friend. The results were astounding – a perfect 87 words of greeting drafted in a third of the time was produced. This is exactly what Google hopes to achieve in the near future.

Google’s Duet AI for Workspace is the first AI tool that offers users a creative writing aid. We tested it out in Gmail and Google Docs to expedite wedding planning and get an idea of its limits. Unfortunately, while the AI can write fluent essays and polite emails to businesses, it is prone to producing stiff writing and it can sometimes insert gender stereotypes and misleading information. It also cannot expound on matters that require more detail, such as drinking games.

Despite its flaws, this tool will have far-reaching effects since it is used by over 2 billion Gmail users and 3 billion Google productivity software users. Microsoft is also testing a version of the technology in services such as Word and Outlook with some business customers.

Help Me Write is free and can be used without restrictions. This particular feature is only available to English-speaking users in the US and other countries. This tool has been tested already for job applications, client letters, and lesson plans with great success.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai claims that the existing AI features Smart Reply and Smart Compose were used 180 billion times last year. It’s no wonder why Google is striving for a revolutionary AI experience within its products!

Besides the Duet AI for Workspace there are also many other AI writing aids out there that are providing a great experience. AI technology simplifies how users work, reducing the amount of time needed to write a document from scratch.

This particular AI writing aid by Google is a great step forward in terms of productivity and a positive sign of the future of technology. Google’s AI writing assistance is becoming more popular and user friendly with every passing day.
