Three Exciting Features Coming to Strava in 2021 – Including AI Route Creation

Date:

Strava is about to revolutionize the way you use their platform, having recently announced a slate of features to be released this year. From AI enabled route creation to 3D mapping and group challenges, users of Strava’s app are sure to be kept on their toes.

The AI-empowered route creation will be leveraging data from users’ past routes, as well as from other users. What this means is that the app will give you access to the best routes, already popular with the Strava community, while providing something new each time you open the app. Also, users will now be able to see their routes in beautiful 3D rendered maps via the implementation of FATMAP. This is going to make it easier to visualize the routes before you attempt them.

Strava has made some major changes to their Groups and Challenges as well. The goal of this is to focus more on community, with the Groups page functioning similarly to Facebook events, where users can post images, videos, new routes, and comments. With Route Collections, it is now possible for brands, resorts, and individuals to share themed collections of routes with the app’s users.

Misha Gopaul, the founder of digital mapping service FATMAP, gave a keynote at the platform’s annual Camp Strava event which highlighted some of the biggest upcoming changes. Gopaul promises AI will provide the most optimal routes for avid cyclists, runners, or skiers no matter the terrain. In addition to this, Strava is now geared towards providing a detailed 3D maps experience. The idea behind this is to allow users to immerse themselves in the routes before they tackle them. Heat maps will also help in terms of pinpointing the most popular routes or the most recent ones.
