The Difficulty of Making the Metaverse Stylish for Even Apple

Date:

Apple, the most revered technology company, might find it hard to make the metaverse (the future of the internet) cool. Its first venture into the world of mixed-reality is right around the corner. Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) could be the source of the unveiling of its mixed-reality headset which they have been working on for years. By definition, it is a portal to a virtual and augmented reality that will provide a more immersive experience for its users.

The Apple universe is gargantuan in terms of sales. In 2020 alone, its iPhone sales gushed up to $205.5 billion and $51.3 billion just from the first three months of 2021. Not to forget the added cult-like following and the apex of its designs, which results in its iPhones becoming a customer favorite.

However, its plans for the metaverse could be a tad rocky. Most tech firms are already in talks about AI and the other metaverse projects have not seen much move either. Microsoft’s HoloLens has been revised due to lack of traction and Zuckerberg’s Meta is already in the process of reducing prices to make it more attractive.

Despite the obvious risk, Apple and its chief, Tim Cook, are inching closer with a mission to make their metaverse a success. Apple initially estimated to produce around 3 million units annually, yet that number was revised to just 900,000. A former Apple marketing exec states that the project may be one of the greatest tech flop of all time.

Although, Apple may still have a chance. Developer Palmer Luckey who is the co-founder of Meta’s VR platform, Oculus believes in Apple and its mission to make the metaverse cool. Oculus has sold around 20 million units and Apple might just pull it off given the right attention.

Yet, there is also a glaring challenge for Apple in terms of this entire mission to make the metaverse successful. AI is the current popular wave and Apple has yet to make a statement about it.Nowadays, everyone is gunning for AI, while Apple still seems to favor its own projects on the side.

The Apple journey to make a mark on the world of mixed -reality still remains a mystery, only time will tell if they are able to pull through and make the metaverse cool.

Apple is an American multinational technology company, headquartered in Cupertino, California. Apple designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services. Some of the key products from Apple are iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and HomePod.

Tim Cook is the current CEO of Apple, and the successor to Steve Jobs. He worked as the Chief Operating Officer for quite some time before, and has been lauded for making Apple tick since becoming the Chief Executive Officer. He believes strongly in upholding Apple’s principles, and he has made it a priority to make the company as innovative as ever, with projects such as the metaverse headset just one example.
