BT Announces Major Job Losses in Telecommunications Industry

Date:

BT, a major telecommunications company, has recently announced a looming job cut that could reach up to 40%, which would be a drastic decrease in their current workforce of 130,000 employees and contractors.

Philip Jansen, the Chief Executive Officer of BT, hopes that with this drastic move, the company will be able to lessen its operational costs and create a brighter future. To help reach this goal, the company is implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for their customer service department, as well as expanding their fiber network grid, which would require less maintenance than the current copper one.

The news comes not long after the yearly earnings report from the company which showed a twelve percent decrease in profits, equaling roughly £1.7bn. Similarly, Vodafone’s downward spiral of losses and potential job cuts has been reported as the telecommunications giant prepares to layoff up to 11,000 employees in the next three years.

Vodafone’s new CEO, Margherita della Valle, has stressed the importance of efficiency and the need to simplify the company through job cuts to improve their overall performance.

BT is an international company based out of the UK and operated by the BT Group.
