India’s Minister of Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav, recently spoke with Times of India regarding the potential of developing the influence of AI platforms in India, and beyond. He spoke of the need for international collaboration to develop the framework and regulation of such platforms. Concerns have arisen with AI platforms like ChatGPT, Bard, and others that relate to Intellectual Property Rights, copyright, and even potential bias of algorithms.
The G7 countries have already begun to seriously consider the potential regulations needed, while the European Union has already taken action with introducing rules for the regulation of AI technology. China has also drafted rules to manage generative AI products.
As the CEO of OpenAI (ChatGPT’s creator), Sam Altman, has expressed his apprehension to the U.S. Senate panel. He is concerned with the potential disruption to the labor market that advanced AI might create in the future. He expressed the need for government intervention to avoid the risks of increasingly powerful AI systems, and said that such intervention could ultimately lead to the creation of many more better-quality jobs even if some may be eliminated.
