Despite being one of the top successful movie franchises of all time, there are some Marvel fans who felt that some of these films could’ve had much better endings. Among the many movies, there are seven Marvel movies that could have benefitted from a change in finale. So let’s explore seven Marvel movies that fans felt should have had a different outcome.
First up, we have Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. After Scott and Hope succeed in taking down Kang the Conqueror, fans felt that their getting stuck in the Quantum Realm before being saved by Cassie was too easy an ending to be impactful. To this end, It feels like the story would have been much more arresting if they had purposefully chosen to remain in another dimension and they had to enlist Doctor Strange to erase every one’s memory of them to preserve the mandate of that universe.
The second one is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At the end of the movie, Stephen Strange uses Darkhold’s forbidden magic to save a woman’s life. But instead of the ending being happy, a frightening shot of Strange painfully gaining a third eye shows up. Unfortunately, this was undercut by an overly comforting mid-credits scene with him and Clea.
Moving on, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ends with the death of Gwen Stacy in the midst of showdown between Peter Parker and Harry Osborn. Although the tricky nature of Peter having to forget her would have been a fitting and fittingly painful way out of the story, Sony cut the sequel and we were given a quick glimpse of Peter taking a break before taking down Rhino for one last battle.
Morbius’ ending was one of the most criticized points of the movie and fans were not too pleased with the Vulture show up post credits. Especially since it raised too many questions such as why Vulture went to the other world, why would he make a new vulture suit and why is he joining hands with Morbius.
Black Widow featured the death of the superheroine, and while the eminently hero-like valiant departure in a Quinjet boded well, fans were left wanting for a much more emotionally charged ending. Luckily, Marvel did have an alternate take on this scene, with Natasha coming across a group of girls playing at the Avengers before the real Widow sharing a heart-warming moment with a little girl pretentiously playing her.
Eternals’ handling of the Deviants was one that was widely hated and it seemed like aside from being CGI obstacles for the Eternals, did much else for the story. To avoid this, it would have been much more compelling to see Kro join forces with the Eternals to ultimately save the world.
Last but not least, Dark Phoenix couldn’t fulfill its original intentions of following up from the franchise due to Disney purchasing the Studio, but instead of having an attempt to tie up the story, we were left without the closure of the franchise. In a different reality, having Jean returning to her home and motivating a little girl before swinging back off with a quick promise of returning to the X-Men could have worked, especially since the school renamed after Jean would have been a beautiful loving sendoff.
All in all, these movies have the potential of being even more deeply engaging with a better take on their endings, leaving us exactly where they should: wanting more.
