Food delivery giant Zomato has taken a bold step to maintain authenticity and trust among its customers by deciding to ban the use of AI-generated food images on restaurant menus. This move comes after a surge in complaints from customers who felt misled by the use of artificial intelligence to showcase dishes.
CEO Deepinder Goyal addressed the issue in a post on a popular social media platform, emphasizing the importance of real food shots for accurate representation. While Zomato does utilize AI for various purposes to enhance efficiency, Goyal made it clear that the use of AI for dish images in menus is strongly discouraged.
Acknowledging the concerns raised by customers regarding the authenticity of AI-generated images, Goyal highlighted the negative impact of such practices on customer trust, leading to increased complaints, refunds, and lower ratings. As a result, Zomato will actively remove AI-generated dish images from menus by the end of this month.
