Zoho Joins Indian Tech Giants in Acquiring GPUs from NVIDIA for AI Expansion
Indian tech giant Zoho Corporation has announced its plans to acquire graphics processing units (GPUs) from NVIDIA to support its AI expansion. In a recent statement, Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and CEO of Zoho, confirmed the company’s ongoing talks with NVIDIA for the purchase of GPUs.
Vembu highlighted the importance of GPUs for AI development, stating that Today, for any kind of AI, you need GPUs, and one company controls all of the GPU, and that is NVIDIA. However, he acknowledged that there is currently a shortage of NVIDIA GPUs, with a wait time of up to six months. Vembu expects the availability of GPUs to improve in the near future.
While Vembu did not provide specific details about the type of GPUs Zoho is looking to acquire, he mentioned that the company is also exploring software from AMD. This move comes as NVIDIA’s planned production of 2 million GPUs for 2024 has already been sold out.
NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, previously stated that India will receive tens of thousands of GPUs to support infrastructure development. He also revealed that India will be among the first countries to receive NVIDIA’s fastest supercomputers, promising a significant boost in processing power and a reduction in training costs for AI models.
Zoho’s announcement follows similar GPU acquisition plans and strategic partnerships by other major Indian tech companies. Reliance Industries recently partnered with NVIDIA to develop India’s foundational large language model, while TCS and Infosys also announced their plans to collaborate with NVIDIA.
Zoho, a leading software as a service (SaaS) provider, is already heavily integrating AI into its products, including the AI engine Zia, which is integrated with OpenAI. The company is also working on an AI-driven product to assist programmers and is developing its own large language models.
Despite expressing caution about the AI industry, Vembu recognizes the necessity of investing in AI capabilities to minimize problems and enhance Zoho’s proprietary projects. As a result, Zoho’s pursuit of GPU acquisition aligns with its ongoing commitment to innovation and AI-driven solutions.
With India emerging as a key market for GPU acquisition amid geopolitical tensions and restrictions on exporting AI chips to China, NVIDIA’s partnerships with major Indian companies signify the growing importance of the Indian AI ecosystem.
In conclusion, Zoho’s decision to acquire GPUs from NVIDIA reflects the expanding AI capabilities and ambitions of Indian tech giants. These partnerships and acquisitions are expected to drive the development of advanced AI infrastructure and foster innovation in India’s tech landscape.
