Zalando, a leader in fashion eCommerce, is venturing into the world of artificial intelligence with the launch of their ChatGPT assistant this spring. This new fashion assistant, powered by OpenAI technology, will be available initially to customers in Germany, Austria, the UK, and Ireland. After customers ask their questions using their personal fashion terms and words, ChatGPT is able to understand the need and offer them clothing recommendations. For example, if a customer asks “What should I wear for a wedding in Santorini in July?”, ChatGPT will understand the formality of the event as well as the climate of the destination, allowing it to present the customer with the perfect attire. Future features could include personalized styles and fashion and beauty advice.
Zalando’s Vice President of Personalization and Recommendation, Tian Su, spoke of their commitment to improving the shopping experience for their customers. He said, “We are committed to understanding our customers’ needs and preferences better and exploring the potential that ChatGPT can bring to their shopping journey. Our focus remains on learning how our customers want to interact with our fashion assistant to provide them with the best possible experience.”
This new venture, if successful, could enable Zalando to further expand their extensive selection of fashion products.
