XPENG Expands to Middle East with Smart EVs, Eyes UAE Market Growth

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer XPENG is expanding its operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the wider Middle East region, signaling a strategic move to tap into the growing demand for smart EVs in these markets.

XPENG, known for its dual listing on the NYSE and the Hong Kong Exchange, has partnered with Ali&Sons to enter the UAE market, with plans to introduce its G6 SUV and G9 SUV models by Q3 2024. The company also aims to launch its P7 sedan and G9 SUV in Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt in the coming quarters.

Alex Tang, GM of International Markets at XPENG, highlighted the significance of targeting key markets in the EMEA region, recognizing them as pivotal for EV growth. The company’s expansion plans include Azerbaijan as its first entry into Central Asia and Egypt as its initial foray into Africa, alongside further expansion into European markets such as Germany, the UK, Italy, and France.

XPENG’s move into the Middle East aligns with the region’s push towards sustainable e-mobility solutions, with an increasing focus on environmental conservation and cleaner transportation options. The company’s decision to enter these markets comes at a time when the EV industry is witnessing rapid growth globally, fueled by advancements in technology and increasing awareness of climate change.

In an effort to bolster its AI capabilities for intelligent driving, XPENG has announced a substantial investment of 3.5 billion yuan ($486.36 million).
