Xbox Unveils New Voice Reporting System for an Ever-Changing World

Microsoft’s Xbox has launched a new voice reporting system aimed at tackling inappropriate behavior and breaches of community standards during online gaming. The feature, available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, allows players to capture 60-second video clips of incidents involving offensive voice activity and report them. This safety measure, designed to create a safer and more inclusive gaming environment, is currently being rolled out to Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead Xbox Insiders. The recorded voice activity is automatically deleted after 24 hours, ensuring user privacy. Microsoft also clarified that the data is not stored permanently on its servers. If no violation is found, the recording is stored for a maximum of 90 days, while violations are stored for 366 days before being deleted. This new reporting system aims to address the challenges of moderating in-game voice interactions by empowering players to report instances of misconduct. While the technology harnesses the power of AI to optimize content flow to moderators, Microsoft also acknowledges the inherent risks of bias and has employed language and culture experts to train and update its AI models regularly.
