As businesses grow more enthusiastic about the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), employees are expressing apprehension about how this new technology will reshape their daily work lives. Two surveys — one conducted by Pew Research Center, and the other by AI Startup Scale AI — sought to measure companies’ level of investment in AI and their employees’ reactions to such changes.
The Pew Survey came from responses of more than 11,000 U.S. adults from different companies. The Scale AI poll gathered feedback from 3,000 machine learning practitioners and corporate executives. The results from Scale AI suggested that investments in AI are on the rise, with 72% of the companies surveyed planning to significantly increase the AI budget in the next three years. Over half of these companies viewed AI as a critical factor of their current operations, while 69% hinted that it would become so in the near future.
While these companies are hopeful of the opportunities offered by AI, the staff remain wary. Despite the large investments and clear business value, many employees are uncertain of their place in this new age. On one hand, most people understand the potential the technology brings and are ready to adapt. However, at the same time, they are also fearful of automation limiting their roles.
