Why Apple’s Vision Pro May Not Make You Look Cool

Date:

Apple’s Vision Pro mixed-reality headset is facing criticism for its unappealing design. While Apple usually excels at making technical gadgets desirable status symbols, the Vision Pro may not hit the mark. Scott Galloway, an NYU marketing professor, once said that owning an iPhone signals success, wealth, and tech savvy. In contrast, the Vision Pro may make users look silly or disconnected from reality. The images that Apple released of the device mostly feature women, indicating an attempt to appeal to a broader audience beyond geeky male gamers. However, many people, including Apple fans, agree that the headset is unappealing and unlikely to be a desirable status symbol. This is only the first iteration of the headset, and the ultimate goal is probably to pack all the capabilities into a slim pair of glasses, which many people look cool in. However, Apple’s AI glasses have been postponed indefinitely due to technical challenges. Even though Apple has successfully launched AirPods and Apple Watch, the Vision Pro may not fare well in terms of fashion and coolness, which are critical factors in today’s market.
