White House Unveils Initiative for Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence

The White House has unveiled a plan to help promote the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It includes an ambitious $140 million investment from the National Science Foundation to launch seven new AI research centers, bringing the total number of these research facilities throughout the country to 25. Additionally, several technology giants such as Google, Microsoft, Nvidia and OpenAI, have agreed to allow their language models to be publically examined during this year’s Def Con cybersecurity event. The Office of Management and Budget also said that it was releasing a draft of rules for the federal government’s use of this AI technology this summer.

Google is a technology company based in Mountain View, California. It is most famous for its popular web search engine, however, the company has since expanded its services and products to include cloud computing, hardware and software, digital streaming services, and even self-driving cars. Additionally, Google provides an array of AI services, such as machine learning and natural language processing, to customers and partners.

Satya Nadella, currently the CEO of Microsoft, has been at the company’s helm since 2014. During his time as CEO, he has focused on and to streamline operations, making them more efficient by utilizing cloud and AI technology. He is credited with “transforming Microsoft into a major cloud and key enterprise services provider,” and has claimed responsibility in large developments such as the HoloLens.
