WhatsApp Bans Nearly 75 Lakh Indian Accounts in a Month: Find Out Why
WhatsApp has taken strict actions against violations in accordance with India’s IT Rules, leading to the banning of almost 75 lakh Indian accounts in October 2023. Out of the total accounts banned, 19,19,000 were proactively removed by WhatsApp. The company’s October 2023 report highlights that it received 9,063 user grievances, primarily related to ban appeals. Based on the nature of the complaints, action was taken against 12 accounts. The Grievance Appellate Committee issued five orders, all of which WhatsApp complied with. The report emphasizes the platform’s commitment to maintaining digital ethics and legal compliance by implementing abuse detection mechanisms throughout an account’s lifecycle.
