Walmart eliminates plastic mailers and supports reusable bags for order pickup

Date:

Walmart has announced plans to significantly reduce the amount of plastic used in its e-commerce operations. The company will switch from plastic mailers to recyclable paper bag mailers, and will allow customers to decline the use of plastic bags for their online pickup orders. Walmart will also offer customers the option to consolidate their orders into fewer boxes, which will help to reduce waste. The company estimates that moving away from plastic mailers alone could eliminate more than 2,000 tons of plastic from circulation in the US by the end of the current fiscal year. Walmart will also no longer require customers to accept their pickup orders in single-use plastic grocery bags. The retailer says that this move could lead to the elimination of millions of single-use bags from circulation each year. Despite these positive changes, stricter regulations are needed to fully combat the overuse of plastic.

Walmart is a multinational retail corporation that was founded in the United States in 1962. The company operates a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores and grocery stores. Walmart is the world’s largest company by revenue, with over 11,000 stores worldwide. The company has a significant environmental footprint due to its size, and has been making efforts to reduce its impact on the environment in recent years.

Amazon introduced its Amazon Day Delivery service in 2019, which allows customers to pick a single day per week to receive their Amazon orders. This has helped to reduce the use of plastic in shipping, as customers can consolidate their orders into a single delivery.
