Volkswagen Confirms Global Integration of AI-powered ChatGPT in Cars, SUVs, US

Date:

Volkswagen is set to integrate AI-powered chatbot technology, ChatGPT, into its cars and SUVs globally. The collaboration with Cerence Inc was officially confirmed by the Volkswagen Group at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. The integration will be implemented through the IDA voice assistant, focusing initially on the MEB and MQB EVO-based models.

The IDA voice assistant equipped with ChatGPT will offer control over infotainment and HVAC systems. Volkswagen emphasizes privacy, ensuring that personal data is safeguarded, as ChatGPT does not have access to vehicle information. Furthermore, questions and answers are promptly deleted to prioritize user privacy.

At CES 2024, Volkswagen showcased its dedication to innovation by unveiling the first vehicles that will receive ChatGPT integration. Starting from the second quarter of 2024, the MEB and MQB EVO models, including the ID.7, ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, Tiguan, Passat, and Golf, will have ChatGPT as a standard feature.

Users will be able to control various features such as infotainment, navigation, and air conditioning through the IDA voice assistant. Activation of the voice assistant is simple, either by saying ‘Hello IDA’ or pressing the button on the steering wheel.

While the global rollout of ChatGPT in Volkswagen vehicles is imminent, there is no confirmation regarding its introduction in Volkswagen India models. Currently, Volkswagen India does not offer MQB EVO or MEB-based vehicles. The potential arrival of ChatGPT and other features in India may depend on future vehicle launches, including the anticipated debut of the ID.4 EV.

This integration of ChatGPT into Volkswagen vehicles highlights the company’s commitment to technological advancement and enhancing the driving experience for customers. With control over infotainment and HVAC systems, users can enjoy a more intuitive and convenient driving experience. As Volkswagen continues to expand its range of electric and connected vehicles, further innovations and features can be expected in the future.
