On Tuesday, Vimeo announced that it will release a suite of generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for its video editing tools. These features aim to reduce the time spent on scripting and editing videos for paying users. Vimeo has decided to focus on corporate customers rather than amateur content, and it wants to use AI to shorten the time executives spend making videos for their staff.
The new feature set, which includes ChatGPT API, will allow users to generate scripts that fit specific tones or lengths, and read them through a new built-in teleprompter with customizable pace and font size. Vimeo’s automatic editing will remove awkward pauses and restitch clips into a smoothly running video by recognizing parts of the video transcript. The new feature set is releasing on July 17th and is only available to paying users who purchase Vimeo’s Standard plan or above, which costs $40 per month or $240 per year.
The new AI integration is designed to help customers be able to quickly and efficiently create videos, especially for enterprise end operations, and it should be especially useful for those without prior production experience. The company hopes that this new suite of features will appeal to even the most tech-illiterate users. Vimeo is hoping that its easy-to-use feature set, which requires less-intensive AI integration than other editing software, will attract more customers.
We took a flow that takes hours that has a lot of customer pain points, and we added AI – not just to add AI – but to use AI to help customer’s lives, said Vimeo’s Chief Product Officer, Ashraf Alkarmi, in Gizmodo.
The features will allow users to choose tone presets for their video, such as formal, inspiring, or funny. However, the precise timing for the teleprompter will depend on the individual speaker, although users can adjust the speed of the teleprompter’s text scrolling.
Earlier this month, Vimeo ended support for TV apps that were part of their all-in-one video experience platform. As a result, the company decided to create these new AI features to help its paying users create videos more efficiently and effectively.
