Digital publishing in Vietnam is experiencing significant growth, as reported by Vietnamnet. A recent conference hosted by the Authority of Publication, Printing, and Distribution highlighted the remarkable progress seen in 2023 and the promising future in 2024.
The shift from traditional ink-on-paper books to dynamic digital publications has become more prevalent, with a substantial increase in e-publications leading the way. Last year alone saw the creation of 4,000 new titles, marking a 19.4 percent rise from the previous year, totaling a staggering 36 million copies – an 11 percent increase.
Particularly noteworthy was the growth in audiobooks, with revenue soaring to $4.83 million during 2022-2023, surpassing expectations. Nguyen Nguyen, Director General of the Authority of Publication, Printing, and Distribution, expressed his pride in Vietnam’s rapidly advancing e-publication market, stating that it is catching up with global standards.
Moreover, 24 out of 57 publishing houses embraced digital platforms, reflecting a 26.3 percent increase from the previous year and accounting for 42.1 percent of all publishing houses. The share of the e-publication market rose to 15.3 percent, surpassing the initial target of 12 percent.
Notably, the application of AI in editing book content and creating audiobooks tailored to diverse audiences has enriched the publishing sector’s offerings. Minister of Information and Communications, Hung, emphasized the importance of innovation in fostering the growth and development of the publishing industry, heralding a new era of digital publishing and a harmonious blend of traditional and digital formats.
