However, the app environment can be a difficult place to navigate. Women, often complaining of too many fakes, put in a lot of effort than the men and this can be exhausting. In order to switch up the gear, one woman decided to give artificial intelligence software, ChatGPT, a chance to take control of her dating profile on Hinge.
ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, released in November 2020 and has since been making headlines for its human-like responses. People have been using it for a plethora of applications, from helpful conversations such as in customer service to just sprucing up their dating profiles. The woman in the article kept her genuine pictures but decided to let AI do the talking on her Hinge profile.
On the 6th of April 2021, the woman decided to switch up her profile with AI responses from ChatGPT. Unfortunately she received no witty responses or comedic reactions and her co-workers suspected it to be because the message was robot-generated which resulted in men swiping right past her. When asked how she hypes herself up, ChatGPT gave her an elongated list of activities and she ended up settling with positive self-talk, visualization, affirmations, music, and goal setting. For the first three days of her experiment, she did not receive any matches at all which contrasted with her typical habit of receiving at least five a day. After making a few changes with the AI software on day four, she received a shocking amount of twelve matches in one day which could be attributed to the fact that maybe she was hidden from being seen before her profile was checked for its authenticity.
Throughout the two-week experiment, the matches seemed to be different with men from a different age range as opposed to before. The main difference was the men transitioned from being in their mid-20’s and early 30’s to those in their late 30’s and early 40’s. She kept her conversation with one man going and stuck to just ChatGPT generated responses. On the tenth day, she switched two of her profile prompts to be more conversational while still making use of the software. The results of the experiment was a bit surprising to her but she still got a lot of matches from eligible bachelors.
