Microsoft has made an interesting move, which involves making their ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool a part of their Bing search engine. Bing with ChatGPT promises a more natural and conversational search experience for users, as long as they are using Microsoft Edge.
To use Bing with ChatGPT, users need to log into a Microsoft account; otherwise, they will only be able to access five responses, after which they will have to log in to continue their conversation. However, logging in does come with several benefits; users can get access to 25 more responses, and Bing will save the chat history. Users can view their chat history across all Microsoft apps and services.
It’s worth noting that Edge’s InPrivate mode doesn’t support ChatGPT; it means there is no way to have sensitive conversations with the platform. So, it’s important to be cautious while chatting with Bing in a shared computer.
If a user opens Bing in Edge, they will have two ways to access the engine’s chat mode, the navigation bar and the message right below the search bar. After clicking the Chat option, the interface looks like most messaging platforms, with exchanges (question and Bing’s responses) taking up most of the space. At the bottom of the interface, is a chat box where users can provide up to 4,000 characters of prompt. Users can type the content directly or click the microphone icon to the right to activate the voice-to-text function.
Before typing in the prompt, users can use the buttons in the middle of the interface to define their query’s conversation style. Bing suggests Creative for more imaginative and original responses. If users want more informative and factual responses like search results and definitions, they should select Balanced. Finally, if users are looking for something specific for calculations, conversions, or straightforward recipes, Precise mode is what they need.
Regardless of the conversational style, Bing will always show links to sources to generate its response. Users can check them at the bottom of the response or by hovering over and clicking underlined text. The platform is not transparent about its vetting process for choosing sources for AI-generated content. Therefore, users need to ensure the links are reputable and trustworthy.
Another function users need to be familiar with is the New Topic button. This button archives the conversation and starts a new one. It keeps the conversation style of the previous conversation by default. But users can change it if they need to. Users can find their chats listed in chronological order to the right of the interface, and they can start where they left off.
In conclusion, Bing with ChatGPT offers users a new level of conversational search experience. With the ability to use voice-to-text function, define conversation styles, and access chat history, it appears to be an excellent tool. However, users must be cautious while using it on shared computers as InPrivate mode doesn’t support ChatGPT. Moreover, keeping in mind the transparency issue of the sources’ vetting process. It will ensure users get accurate and factual results.
