Users Backlash Against Snapchat’s ChatGPT-Powered My AI Chatbot

Date:

Snapchat recently released its “My AI” chatbot feature powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology. The feature sparked backlash from users who complained that they were unable to control it, prompting a surge of negative app store reviews and widespread internet criticism. The chatbot is exclusively available to Snapchat+ subscribers and offers a variety of features such as answering trivia questions, providing buying advice, recommending trips and suggesting recipes. Despite not being able to opt-out, My AI is pinned to the top of the app’s chat feed which prevents users from responding to their peers in a timely fashion. As a result, many users feel their private conversations are being invaded as they have no choice in the matter.

Snapchat is a popular social media app beloved by millions of users around the world. Founded by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown in 2011, it currently boasts over 360 million active users in more than 190 countries. The app, which allows users to share photos, messages, and videos with their contacts, has become one of the most widely used platforms on the internet. Snapchat+ is the premium version of the app which offers more features and improved performance over the free version.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is an AI-based chatbot technology which provides natural language processing, conversation logic, and natural language understanding. The technology has been used to power a variety of chatbot projects, including My AI and other AI-powered messenger bots. The technology is designed to enable smarter conversations between users and their AI-operated chatbots.

Snapchat users are angry with the implementation of the My AI feature, which has resulted in numerous reviews complaining about the inability to opt-out. As the issue is yet to be addressed, users are left to contend with the unavoidable presence of the chatbot. As of now, only Snapchat+ subscribers can unpin or remove My AI from their chat feed, while free users are unable to do so. This has inevitably caused frustration among Snapchat users who feel they are being favored over their paying counterparts, creating an agitated atmosphere among the social media platform’s user base.
