US AI Startup Anthropic in Talks to Raise $750M for Chatbot Development

US-based AI startup Anthropic is reportedly in talks with venture capital firm Menlo Ventures to raise $750m in a funding round. If finalized, the round is expected to value Anthropic at approximately $18bn. Anthropic, founded by former executives of Microsoft-backed rival OpenAI, focuses on developing reliable and understandable AI systems. The funds raised will support the continuous development of Anthropic’s chatbot, Claude, which emphasizes safety and responsible AI. The startup has already received investments from Google and Amazon.com, with a cloud agreement with Google also in place. In addition, Anthropic recently secured a $100m investment from South Korea’s SK Telecom to develop a multilingual language model customized for the telcos industry.
