GPT-4 is an artificial large language model system developed by OpenAI, an independent artificial intelligence research laboratory based in San Francisco. GPT-4 is an advanced version of their previous GPT-3.5 model, with more capabilities and uses. It can produce natural-sounding speech, solve written problems, generate text or images from scratch, answer questions, create inferences, and summarize large text and image collections. Furthermore, GPT-4 has been tested on standardized tests like AP exams and SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing, and scored in the 90th to 93rd percentiles. It is available on a subscription basis, with pricing starting at $0.03 per 1000 prompt tokens, and dedicated customers can be granted access to the GPT-4 API.
OpenAI created GPT-4 with a vast library of existing human communication, including classic works of literature and vast swathes of the Internet. The model is trained to predict what letter, number, or other characters are likely to come in sequence. With its digital controls and human trainers to curate its output, OpenAI has created a system that is capable of producing useful and business-appropriate results.
However, there are a few major limitations to GPT-4 technology. One is that it does not account for the accuracy of its statements, since it is only predicting the next character in a sequence. For this same reason, it is also prone to creating “hallucinations”. Additionally, if corporate information is fed into GPT-4, it can potentially be exposed to external parties. OpenAI’s GPT-4 also does not take into account current events; its lexicon only goes up to September 2021.
In comparison with OpenAI’s previous model, GPT-3.5, GPT-4 recovers information with more succinct phrases which are easier to parse, and it is better at making business decisions. It can also process images, generating descriptions of real-world objects or determining the main elements of a website and explaining them.
Elon Musk, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Infosys are some of the backers of OpenAI producing GPT-4. It has public access at the ChatGPT portal, where users join to become a part of the waitlist. To ensure corporate security, Microsoft is planning to offer private ChatGPT instances for the enterprise later in the second quarter of 2023. With its unique capabilities, GPT-4 is a powerful tool for businesses to integrate into their operations and processes.
