Yaba College of Technology Rector Emphasizes Importance of Efficient Transport System for Nigeria’s Economic Growth
During the recent TPL Dr. Abubakar Mobolaji Olaseni’s Annual Lecture Series, Dr. Engr Ibraheem Abdul, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, highlighted the crucial role that an efficient transportation system and infrastructural development play in Nigeria’s economic prosperity.
Dr. Abdul pointed out the challenges facing Nigeria’s transportation sector and stressed the urgent need for comprehensive reforms to ensure a more functional transportation system. He emphasized the critical significance of transportation and infrastructure in driving economic growth in the country.
The Chairman of the Lecture, Bar. Samuel Agbeluyi, echoed Dr. Abdul’s sentiments, noting the inadequacy of Nigeria’s physical and social infrastructure, which is essential for enhancing the overall welfare of citizens. In his address, guest lecturer Prof. Bamidele Abiona Badejo advocated for a professional approach to handling Nigeria’s transportation system to realize its socio-economic potential fully. He called for urgent improvements in the current state of transport modes in Nigeria and emphasized the importance of public engagement, education, and advocacy in this regard.
Furthermore, Prof. Badejo highlighted the necessity of developing a strategic framework to coordinate and integrate all transport modes and policies in Nigeria effectively. He underscored the importance of aligning transport policy with the socio-economic development agenda to foster growth and development in the country.
Celebrating the insights shared during the lecture, Tpl Dr. Abubakar Mobolaji Olaseni emphasized the need to develop a modern transport system to support Nigeria’s economic activities effectively.
