Ukraine Strikes Russian Energy Infrastructure with Drones
In a daring move, Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure across eight regions. The strikes, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, aimed at a fuel depot and power substations, according to a statement from a Ukrainian special services source.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks, highlighting the damage caused in regions such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Tula, Smolensk, Ryazan, Kaluga, and even Moscow. This escalation comes amidst Moscow’s efforts to disrupt Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in a bid to create hardships for its citizens during the freezing temperatures.
The coordinated operation was carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Defence Intelligence, and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The focus was on targeting the energy infrastructure supporting Russian military-industrial facilities, causing disruptions in power and water supply in several areas.
Video footage shared on social media captured the aftermath of the drone strikes, particularly showcasing the damage to a fuel depot in Russia’s Smolensk region, which caught fire as a result.
Russian authorities reported intercepting one drone over the Smolensk region and claimed to have taken down a total of 50 Ukrainian drones in the past day. The attacks have been increasing in recent months, with Ukraine utilizing drones with advanced capabilities to target critical infrastructure deep inside Russian territory.
As the conflict between Ukraine and Russia intensifies, Ukraine is implementing strategic drone attacks to diminish Russia’s economic potential.
