UK Granted Early Access to AI Models from Google and OpenAI

The United Kingdom has secured early or priority access to artificial intelligence (AI) models from industry leaders Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic, according to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The companies have offered the access for research and safety purposes to help understand the potential opportunities and risks associated with AI systems. It remains unclear at present how the UK’s access will differ from that available to the public, though both internal company and external expert testing could be a possibility. Sunak also highlighted plans for a global task force in recognition of AI’s borderless nature and investments in AI and quantum technologies to drive innovation.
