TSPSC Paper Leak Case: Accusations of Cheating in Exam Using OpenAI Chatbot After Illegally Obtaining Question Papers

Date:

The Telangana State Public Service Commission question paper leak case may be the first of its kind in India where candidates allegedly cheated in competitive exams using ChatGPT. The special investigation team discovered that one of the suspects, Poola Ramesh, used advanced technology to access and obtain answers to the questions meant for hiring assistant executive engineers and divisional accounts officers. Ramesh then communicated the answers to seven candidates using Bluetooth headphones during the test. The suspect had reportedly used ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, to access solutions for two of the questions from at least three question papers. Further investigations are ongoing, and all those involved in the cheating scandal will be facing legal actions.

ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI that enables users to converse and get replies in natural language. The chatbot uses the state-of-the-art GPT-3 natural language processing model to respond based on the input given in a conversational way. OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2020 to showcase the extensive capabilities of the GPT-3 model.

Poola Ramesh is a divisional engineer of Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd in Peddapalli. He has been accused of being involved in the question paper leak case with at least three others. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Ramesh and interrogated him. He allegedly used his technical knowledge and ChatGPT to access the stolen question papers and helped candidates cheat during the tests. Ramesh has been suspended from the job, and legal actions will be initiated against him.
