Trying Out a New Competitor for Google’s ChatGPT

Date:

Google recently rolled out its own Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool for search, called Search Generative Experience (SGE). This comes as part of the tech giant’s bid to remain competitive against its rivals with similar technology, such as Microsoft’s ChatGPT integration with Bing search. The new feature from Google is available within the Google Search Labs to give users the ability to try out experimental ideas and provide feedback.

SGE works by providing an extra section at the top of search results. It collates information from different sources and puts it all in one place for easy accessibility. The tool is intended to make it easier to quickly learn about a topic, find different viewpoints on it, and complete tasks with greater efficiency.

Google’s AI also offers various benefits to help with searching. It can break down broad subjects into small, easier to understand chunks. It also helps with finding much more specific information, by gathering it from all corners of the web and organizing it into one place. It even makes it easier to discover products and services related to an item of interest. Questions can be asked underneath the initial results box to have an AI-driven conversation with Google.

If you’d like to try out SGE, you have to join Google Labs and be based in the U.S. When eligible, you’ll receive an email to begin trying out the feature. You may use Chrome on your desktop or the Google app on iOS or Android.

Google has promised to keep updating and improving its generative AI tool, showing that the company is dedicated to a better search experience. With SGE, Google might just have found the right way to keep its crown as the leading search engine.
