Truecaller, the popular caller identity app, has reintroduced call recording for its premium users on both iOS and Android. While call recording is restricted on both operating systems, Truecaller has found a way to bypass the limitations by calling a dedicated recording line. Android users can use Truecaller’s dialer to make a recording call, while iOS users will need to call a recording line through the app and merge the calls. Truecaller confirmed that the other person on the call will hear a beep indicating that the call is being recorded. All recordings and transcripts will be stored locally on the device, and users can search through transcripts to easily find information in recorded conversations. Truecaller plans to roll out transcripts in the next few weeks, and the company is exploring ways to notify users if an artificial intelligence is on the other end of the call. To facilitate these features, Truecaller is using technology from CallHero. Truecaller offers three plans in the US: a basic ad-free plan, a premium plan with call recording, and a top-tier plan with a call screening assistant. The company plans to roll out this feature in multiple countries, including India, its largest market.
