QuSecure founder and cybersecurity expert Skip Sanzeri has raised concerns about the threat posed by quantum computing to language models powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Examples of such models include chatbot ChatGPT, which has 100 million users, and autonomous search engines that can write, debug and learn from computer code. Sanzeri warned that as people use LLMs, their digital footprints grow, containing sensitive data that can be disrupted or stolen by bad actors, especially as quantum computers become more powerful. To protect against these risks, Sanzeri suggested upgrading public key cryptography to make it quantum resilient, and that people and businesses review LLM site privacy policies and consider new post-quantum cybersecurity algorithms.
