The year 2022 has kindled the new fire of generative AI. It has amazed even the non-tech community with leisure and business applications alike, from chatbots adept with knowledge to AI avatars and models scoring high in the bar exams. This high-level tech has spurred a high-value neo-tech bubble with rounds and valuations such as those made for Adept and Jasper’s $350 million Series B and $125 million Series A.
Though the tech world couldn’t be more thrilled, regulators and startup founders also had to ask questions about bias, ownership, and safety. In the model layer of the generative AI ecosystem, third party and open source providers like OpenAI and Stability AI commissioned labors that help startups build on existing models. Soon after, there were a slew of tools like LangChain and Fixie that sprung up, helping developers create applications faster and with greater ease. Latitude, one of the many applications that were born, is an AI-based interactive video game.
In order to discern which of these models is offering the most promise, Insider asked 22 top artificial-intelligence and machine-learning investors to select early-stage startups in this sector. The results are in and here are 44 of the most promising startups of 2023 according to a handful of expert VCs.
The Investors
Scott Beechuk from Norwest Venture Partners and Y Combinator partner Ali Partovi are two of the investors that weighed in for this project. Beechuk noted the quick speed with which generative AI is evolving and Partovi provided insight into the areas with the highest potential.

Adept Inc., Jasper, MosaicML, Banana, Latitude, LangChain, Fixie, and Dust are some of the top names mentioned. Each of these companies provides both leisure and business applications that leverage generative AI models and are proving to be quite useful.
These 44 startups represent the most promising generative AI applications and models of 2023, according to some of the industry’s top VCs. Though their success remains to be seen, there is no doubt that the future holds an amazing future in generative AI with these startups leading the revolution.
