Texas A&M Scientist Develops Data-Centric Fairness Framework to Eliminate Bias in Machine Learning
Machine learning has revolutionized various sectors of the economy, including healthcare, public services, education, and employment opportunities. However, this technology also poses challenges in terms of bias within the data and algorithms it employs, potentially resulting in discrimination against specific individuals or groups.
To address this issue, Dr. Na Zou, an assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution at Texas A&M University, has embarked on a mission to create a data-centric fairness framework. Her research has been supported by the esteemed National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award.
Dr. Zou’s primary objective is to develop a comprehensive framework that tackles bias, enhances data quality, and improves the modeling processes in machine learning.
