Tesla Sparks EV Charging Standards War

Legacy automakers in the US have decided to incorporate Tesla charging technology in their upcoming electric vehicle (EV) models, starting from 2025. Ford initiated the trend in May, and GM followed this week. Tesla had shared its EV charging connector design last year to encourage automakers to adopt the technology and make it the new standard for North America. The Tesla standard, named the North American Charging Standard, is now gaining support from companies and people alike, fuelling an EV charging standards war. However, concerns remain about whether the Tesla supercharger network can handle the strain. Meanwhile, Canada’s Apollo Scooters unveiled its Explore 2024 scooter prototype. It boasts smart regenerative braking, self-healing tyres, built-in GPS, and more. E-bike subsidies are also cropping up in various regions. British Columbia in Canada, for example, is offering rebates of over $6 million to 9,000 citizens. Beam has teamed up with Australia’s TAFE Queensland in a pilot program to build Australia’s first accredited vocational pathway for micromobility.
