Tesla China Announces Model Y with Hardware 4
Tesla China has recently revealed that its Model Y units at the Giga Shanghai production facility will now be equipped with Hardware 4.0. This exciting upgrade was announced by Tesla China on their official Weibo account. The company claims that the new generation of autonomous driving hardware will enable the vehicles to see further, see clearer, and calculate faster.
While Tesla China did not disclose any price changes for the upgraded Model Y units with Hardware 4.0, it is worth mentioning that the current prices for the Model Y in China are as follows: the Model Y RWD starts at RMB 258,900, the Dual-Motor AWD Long Range variant starts at RMB 299,990, and the Model Y Performance begins at RMB 363,900.
In addition to the hardware upgrade, Tesla China has also announced a new color option for the Model Y. The upgraded Model Y will now be available in a color called Quicksilver, which was previously exclusive to Giga Berlin vehicles due to its advanced paint shop.
It is important to note that this hardware upgrade is not to be confused with the highly-anticipated Model Y Juniper, which is expected to feature both exterior and interior changes.
Interestingly, Tesla had already started rolling out Hardware 4 to Model S and Model X vehicles in the United States last year. Customers who experienced the upgrade reported significant improvements in processing power and the Tesla Vision technology.
During the TSLA Q4 and Full Year 2023 earnings call, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, mentioned that the company is already working on Hardware 5. He stated, So, we’re now on what’s called Hardware 4, but it’s actually version 2 of the Tesla-designed AI inference chip. And we’re about to complete design of-the terminologies are a bit confusing about the complete design of Hardware 5, which is actually version 3 of the Tesla-designed chip because version 1 was Mobileye, version 2 was Nvidia, and then version 3 was Tesla.
Tesla enthusiasts and investors are eagerly anticipating further updates on Tesla’s ongoing developments in autonomous driving technology.
