Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated North Zone-II Regional Conference on ‘Contemporary Judicial Development and Strengthening Justice through Law and Technology’ on Saturday. The virtual conference was attended by the judges of Supreme Courts, High Courts and Subordinate Courts of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and was organized by the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with the National Judicial Academy Bhopal.
At the conference, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the importance of technology in making the lives of common people easier in every field, including the judicial system. He added that the inclusion of modern technology in the judiciary has accelerated the functioning of the judicial system, which was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic when the virtual hearings saved both money and time of the people.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need to view technology as an ally in bringing about change and strengthening the judicial system. He said that a reliable and speedy judicial system is essential for a healthy and self-confident society, as well as for the development of the country and that when justice is seen being served, the faith of the common man in the constitutional institutions gets strengthened and continuous improvement of law and order becomes possible. He also spoke about the Alternative Dispute Redressal option as a way of resolving disputes and preparing the legal education in line with technology.
The Chief Minister further highlighted that the constitution unites all of us Indians through the collective aims and objectives that form the fundamental features of our democracy. The constitution being the foundation of our democracy is supported by three pillars – Legislative, Executive and Judiciary. He believes that these pillars must operate within their own domains, ultimately bringing prosperity, transparency and harmony in the society.
Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan welcomed the distinguished guests. The National Judicial Academy Bhopal was represented by Director Justice AP Sahi, along with Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Vivek Singh. Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena was also present at the event.
The National Judicial Academy Bhopal plays a key role in improving justice in India. It works by providing training programs to judicial officers and other personnel to equip them with the right skills and knowledge to ensure better performance. The institution also works to advance the rule of law, access to justice and human rights around India.
