Team Namibia Secures Global Tech4Good Victory with AI-Powered YYeni Solution
In a remarkable display of innovation and technical prowess, Team Namibia emerged as the triumphant winner of the esteemed Seeds for the Future Tech4Good Global Competition. Their revolutionary creation, YYeni AI, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered teaching solution, captured the hearts and minds of both judges and spectators alike.
YYeni AI stands as a groundbreaking platform that caters to the unique needs of every student, providing personalized tutoring in large classrooms. Leveraging state-of-the-art AI algorithms, the app guides students through their coursework, offering real-time progress tracking. This invaluable tool greatly enhances the learning experience, especially in settings with limited teaching resources.
Team Namibia’s exceptional efforts in developing the YYeni AI solution earned them the prestigious global champion title. The second and third prizes were awarded to Team Uzbekistan’s Aquatibia Solution and Team Germany’s TraceWaters Solution, respectively. It is worth noting that Team Uzbekistan had previously secured victory in the Tech4Good Middle East and Central Asia Regional Competition held in September 2023.
The Tech4Good Global Competition encourages students to tackle sustainable development challenges prevalent in their communities by harnessing their ICT knowledge and skills to create commercially-viable solutions. This year, an impressive total of 152 teams from 74 countries and regions participated in the competition, marking a 70% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, a People’s Choice Award was bestowed based on public voting, with Team Brazil and Team Uzbekistan reigning supreme.
Jaimee Stuart, a Senior Researcher at the United Nations University Institute in Macau, commended this year’s finalists for their exceptional contributions. Stressing the effectiveness of technology in addressing global challenges, Stuart remarked that the students’ solutions presented an innovative perspective on meeting social development requirements while fulfilling market needs.
Gracing the awards ceremony virtually via a state-of-the-art avatar technology, Jeff Wang, the President of Huawei’s Public Affairs and Communications Department, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the event’s participants. Wang hailed them as the backbone of our future digital society, recognizing their unwavering dedication to leveraging digital technology for the advancement of social inclusion. Notably, their solutions aimed to tackle diverse sustainability and social issues, including natural resource protection, cancer diagnosis, education equity, and sign language translation.
In an exciting announcement, Wang revealed that the top three teams, along with the People’s Choice Award winners, would be invited to participate in a Seeds for the Future digital tour to China in 2024.
