Despite the country’s huge potential, the number of AI researchers with doctorates has only reached 0.1 percent, far lower than its US counterparts. Companies are offering high packages and other incentives to attract the best AI talent. China's "AI 2000" list from Tsinghua University reveals that the country is lagging behind the U.S in terms of large language and multimodal models. Collaboration with universities and other countries has been necessary to bridge the gap. However, with U.S-China trade tensions, this collaboration has drastically fallen in the past few years.
