Major Study Reveals Challenges with ChatGPT in Accounting

This recent research studied how Microsoft-backed OpenAI's AI chatbot ChatGPT compares to human accounting abilities. A team led by BYU's David Wood assessed the original version of ChatGPT and the results were intriguing. The AI scored lower than the average student grade of 76.7%, but excelled in AIS and auditing, yet was unable to excel in tax and management related questions due to difficulty in processing mathematical and numerical components. ChatGPT had a higher score in true and false questions and multiple-choice topics, though had issues with answering short-answer questions.
