ChatGPT Makes Waves in Japanese Education

ChatGPT is shaking up the world of education in Japan – from the start of the new school year, universities and the Education Ministry have been introducing measures to prevent its use. This AI-powered technology produces writings with natural style which can lead to use for passing reports and books with minimal effort. Kyushu University's Vice President, Professor Takeru Nose, addressed the imminent risks posed at a guidance session for freshmen and committees were set up to look into it. The Education Ministry are also planning to introduce guidelines surrounding the use of ChatGPT. Professor from the National Institute of Informatics, Ichiro Sato, warned against its potential wrong information. Students applying for internships in June will have to write self-introductions, and companies are against the repetition of information in chatbot-generated applications. Overseas, Stanford University conducted a survey which showed that 17% of students used AI for exams and introduced a ban as a result. New York City Public Schools also prohibit the use of ChatGPT while Oxford University is one of the few that completely forbid its use. The article is related to Bunkahoso Career Partners' Recruiting Information Lab which provides HR-related services and consulting. Their director, Keiko Hirano, strives to reduce the burden of students applying for ES entry and believes that ChatGPT could help achieve this.
