OpenAI, the San Francisco-based research laboratory, is looking to advanced AI technologies like ChatGPT to propel its goals of forming human-level artificial intelligence. Yet doing so poses a large cost as analyst Dylan Patel estimates at least $700,000 per day. This cost is reliant on OpenAI's GPT-3 model, but would likely increase with GPT-4. Microsoft is aiding the effort by creating an AI chip, called Athena, to reduce the expense of using GPUs.
