ChatGPT is an AI language system which can replicate human-sounding sentences with accuracy, but it cannot interpret language in the same way as us. A recent study revealed that while GPT-3 can produce correct responses to simple language tasks, it lacks the capability of those with embodied knowledge. GPT-4, which is trained with images, showed improved performance compared to GPT-3, but still worse than humans. Experts are now aiming for AI to gain an understanding of language by receiving interactive physical and social experiences.
