The EU's data protection agency, EPDB, has formed a task force to address global use of AI chatbot ChatGPT as legal enquiries into it are being opened in multiple countries. OpenAI Technologies, the US-based company providing ChatGPT, is committed to protecting people's privacy and its tools follow the law. Expect EPDB’s task force to foster cooperation and potentially enforce measures to guarantee data protection standards are kept.

Italy reversed their ban on AI chatbot ChatGPT after OpenAI, the creator, confirmed compliance with all applicable regulations for user's personal data and minors protection. The country became the first to take such action after security threats appeared. Regulators ensured GDPR, privacy policy adherence and ensured minors protection. OpenAI is dedicated to benefit humanity with its AI research and development.

OpenAI's ChatGPT offers natural language responses that emulate human conversation, raising privacy concerns. Italy's Garante imposed requirements on the AI service to verify user ages, increase transparency and prevent misuse of personal data. OpenAI must comply with these directives by April 30th, followed by additional measures to protect children by May 31st.

OpenAI, founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is under investigation by the Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD) and the Italian Data Protection Authority (DPA) over potential GDPR violations. OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot is currently blocked in Italy but still accessible in Spain. To ensure users' rights and freedoms, the AEPD is looking for ways to ensure OpenAI's technologies, such as artificial intelligence, comply with the EU's data protection framework.

The task force aims to provide guidance to countries like Italy and France, who have taken steps to investigate and, in some cases, prohibit the use. ChatGPT has become popular for its ability to generate conversations, essays, and even poetry from brief prompts but has come under fire for potential issues related to cheating, the spread of fake news, and displacement of human workers. The task force is led by the European Data Protection Board and joined by OpenAI, the company responsible for building ChatGPT, to ensure the best privacy protection of its users.
