Scientists used new AI algorithm PrimateAI-3D to analyze primate DNA and predict genetic risks for humans. Findings can assist in health research and conservation efforts.
At Caltech Science Exchange, two AI experts, Pietro Perona and Suzanne Stathatos, discussed how challenging computer vision and AI techniques can be used to identify, classify, and explore wildlife and biodiversity. Leverage AI to monitor salmon populations, analyze satellite imagery and other applications to help support ecological and economic efforts. A powerful tool for naturalists, studies show the possibilities in AI are ever-changing.
This article outlines the use of machine learning and PALSAR-2 data to monitor changes in soil salinity. To ensure successful land management and conservation, a reliable, accurate method of detecting changing salinity was investigated. The study looked at the effects of polarization of backscattering from soil surface and used a Random Forest algorithm to extract useful information. Our results will help develop effective strategies for monitoring and managing of soil salinity and other land-use changes.
