. OpenAI's ChatGPT technology has amazed the world with its capabilities since its launch in November 2020. In a study conducted by Brigham Young University and published in the American Accounting Association journal, its potential was tested with accounting paperwork. ChatGPT scored an impressive 47.7%, but still lagged behind the students average of 76.7%. ChatGPT was tested on tax, audit, management and financial evaluation and even exceeded the student average for accounting data systems and auditing with 11.3%. Despite these successes, it failed to overcome mathematics-oriented tasks. Professor David Wood from Brigham Young University has expressed concern with it being used for cheating, but also believes it can improve the learning progress of students and faculty in educational institutions.
OpenAI, a renowned company working on advanced AI solutions, recently unveiled remarkable results related to a ChatGPT AI bot tested at BYU. Student performance surpassed ChatGPT in accounting exams with an average result of 77%, while ChatGPT's score was 47%. Despite the results, researchers saw great potential in the tool's performance of AIS and auditing. Nonetheless, it still struggles with short-answer questions and simple mathematics. 327 co-authors from 187 universities around the world authored this paper, and concluded that ChatGPT is a game-changer.
This study conducted by Brigham Young University (BYU) researchers in tandem with 186 universities from 14 countries, found that OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT wasn't quite a match for the exam, but "impressive" nonetheless. It had a harder time solving tax, finance and managerial question, but still provided explanations and references, even if wrong and often made-up. With its results, possible classroom implications for AI models are discussed.
. This article examines the performance of OpenAI's ChatGPT product in an accounting exam. It had difficulty with short-answer questions, and specifically with tax, financial, and managerial accounting tasks, which could be attributed to its difficulty with mathematical processes. A research team of 327 from 186 universities in 14 countries conducted the study. This groundbreaking breakthrough has the potential to revolutionize teaching and learning in academia.
OpenAI's ChatGPT introduced an AI chatbot which uses machine learning to generate natural language, passing the bar exam, 13 out of 15 AP exams, and the GRE Verbal exam with great scores. Recently, researchers and 186 universities tested the original version, ChatGPT, in accounting exams and published the results in Issues in Accounting Education. ChatGPT scored 47.4% and even though it outperformed humans with true/false and multiple choice questions, there was difficulty with higher order questions. Even so, it's clear that AI technology can revolutionize education.
