Nightdive Studios, the developer of the System Shock remake, may be working on a strategy game within the same universe, akin to XCOM 2. In an interview with TRG, Nightdive CEO and System Shock remake director Stephen Kick revealed that the team is considering the possibility of exploring the System Shock universe in different genres, including strategy games. Kick mentioned the idea of creating an XCOM-like game that takes place before the events of the first System Shock, where players would fight against SHODAN’s cyborgs and machines as part of the resistance on Citadel Station.
Although this is not a confirmation of the game’s development, the idea certainly has potential. Nightdive has already created the assets for the System Shock remake, and its labyrinthine structure and tight corridors are perfect materials for level design in a turn-based strategy title.
Moreover, players can easily grow attached to their Citadel Station survivors, develop their skills, and fight to survive against SHODAN’s mutant cyborg army while being taunted by the rogue AI. With the remake receiving positive reception, it’s unlikely that Nightdive is done with the franchise just yet.
